THE ACADEMY
By combining immersive training experiences, personalized mentoring relationships, and technologically advanced e-learning platforms, we empower individuals to not only acquire knowledge but also apply it effectively in real-world scenarios. This comprehensive approach ensures that learners are equipped with the skills, guidance, and accessibility needed to navigate the evolving landscape of accountability for human rights abuses, fostering a culture of learning and sustainable personal and professional growth.
WE TRAIN THE NEXT GENERATION
We offer interactive and experiential learning for lawyers, investigators, and NGOs. Our training program combines theoretical knowledge with real-world applications relevant to the participants‘ context.
WE MENTOR COMMUNITY MEMBERS WORKING IN THE FIELD
Our mentorship model is customized to meet the specific goals and needs of mentees. Our mentors have decades of experience in different fields and offer valuable insights, industry wisdom, and personalized guidance.
WE LEARN FROM OUR MEMBERS' LIVED EXPERIENCES AROUND THE WORLD
We leverage cutting-edge technology and our Members’ expertise to increase access to and deliver flexible educational programs for youth groups, grassroots activists, and universities.
EXAMPLES OF OUR WORK INCLUDE:
INVESTIGATIONS BEST PRACTICE TRAINING & ACTION-LEARNING
To strengthen knowledge foundations of NGOs, lawyers, investigators, and grassroots and youth groups, we offer structured, interactive training programs, supplemented with action-learning, on international criminal standards for collecting and preserving evidence (with a focus on linkage evidence, the most difficult type of evidence to collect), case building, and accountability mechanisms. Our curriculum is informed by actual cases, with all the challenges and investigative elements, and tailored to participants’ context. To fully transfer knowledge and ensure implementation of new skills and techniques, we also offer case-focused mentoring after our trainings.
WORKSHOP ON FINANCIAL DIMENSIONS OF ATROCITIES
Our lawyers specializing in Banking & Atrocity Crimes run workshops to develop and implement strategies to hold financiers and financial institutions facilitating mass crimes accountable. This workshop provides training on financial investigations and financial accountability legal theories, ranging from theories under International Criminal Law to anti-money laundering and other financial crimes. Together, we identify potentially viable cases and legal mechanisms that could be pursued in specific contexts relevant to participants.
E-LEARNING
Together with Amrin Law & Consultants and our partner, Legal Aid of Cambodia, we developed and launched an e-learning platform with six courses (about 20 hours of learning material, including practical skills building, by leading experts around the world) on Khmer Rouge history and jurisprudence from the Extraordinary Chambers in the Courts of Cambodia (ECCC). Courses are available in self-study format (in both English and Khmer) for students and legal professionals at no cost. Alternatively, the courses may be facilitated by one of our Members in Cambodia, incorporated into study programs at universities worldwide, or used as continuing legal education.
LEGAL IMPACT HUB
Together with our Founding Law Firm Member, Amrin Law & Consultants, and our partner, ReAct, we have led the Legal Impact Hub (LIH) in Cambodia. The LIH is an online and in-person resource for survivors and NGO partners working to combat human trafficking and child sexual exploitation and abuse in Southeast Asia. Currently, there are almost 15 partners in the LIH, and we have trained and mentored over 100 individuals from law enforcement, bar associations, civil society, and more.
