Paulo Busse has over 20 years of experience as a consultant and trial lawyer in all sorts of criminal cases, acting from the investigation phase all the way to the upper courts. For 10 years, he represented vulnerable defendants in pro bono murder cases at the Central Criminal Court of São Paulo. In collaboration with other lawyers, he has spearheaded a number of cutting-edge legal actions to protect the environment in Brazilian courts and advised on national ecocide laws. Paulo is also experienced at dealing with sensitive investigations involving the handling of issues of high complexity at cases that expand beyond national borders. He regularly advises on reporting to and communications with public authorities. For over 15 years, he has assisted human rights and environmental organizations with general legal counseling, training, capacity building, legal risk assessments, compliance and security strategies, as well as defenses and accusations in civil and criminal enquiries and proceedings. Paulo is also seasoned in devising and implementing litigation strategies on a wide range of environmental, climate change and human rights related matters across the country and abroad.
